First - I like what i read on "on-target", a blog written by Franco Graziosi because i was able to relate to one of the projects i was associated with. A performance management solution is a disaster if the objectives are not written down and agreed upon. What started off as a performance dashboard project with good KPI's, trend indicators, took a different direction once the business convinced the consultant to add measures without clear objectives.

At this juncture we stumbled on KPI studio, a free tool provided by Component business solutions. It was then that using the KPI Studio that we reverse engineered all the dashboards and score cards. No Surprise, we discovered that there was not clear objectives to link to in most of the measures and KPI's, infact we had ended up with a dashboard which looked more of a detailed report. A lesson learned on what not to have on a dashboard.
